January Meeting

The DEI Council held its first meeting on Thursday, January 14th, where we introduced the council members to Diversity Consultant, Wayne Winborne. Wayne eloquently discussed the history of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion and how this topic has changed in society’s view from civil rights legislation through the Black Lives Matter movement. He hosted a lively Q&A where council members discussed a variety of topics from unconscious bias, to having difficult conversations around race with friends, and how Corra will stay committed to hiring a diverse workforce.

The council hopes that in understanding each others’ story, it can help enhance one’s one story. The council shared its annual plan to divide into sub-groups to own various recognition months throughout the year. Please see the attached file for the recording of the meeting.

What is DEI?

Corra’s Diversity Equality & Inclusion (DEI)  Council expands on the company’s statement and commitment in offering an inclusive and diverse workplace. This Council will focus on addressing key topics and spreading awareness related to DEI. The council will be composed of employee volunteers and advisors within Corra.

When we say DEI as relates to the goals of this Council this is what we are referring to:

  • Diversity- Seek to have the diversity of our staff reflect the diversity of our communities
  • Equality-through conversations and advocacy ensuring everyone has a chance to have their voice and concerns heard
  • Inclusion- Our actions to engage in somber conversations and celebrate together will generate a natural characteristic within our values to ensure all are engaged and feel welcome
